If you are one of the many people who has read Louis de Bernières's "Birds Without Wings" and fallen in love with it like I have, you may be interested to know that Louis will be in Fethiye on May 1 for a workshop, discussion and booksigning!
I am somewhat embarrassed to admit that I have literally just started reading the book, which is set in a Turkish village in the early 20th century during the waning days of the Ottoman Empire, though I have seen it on bookshelves here for the past three and a half years I've lived in Turkey. I actually started the book yesterday -- what timing! -- and every couple of pages kept turning to Jeff and going, "How did I wait this long to read this?" and "Can I read this to you? This is great."
Then last night while checking my blog feeds, I am came across a post by Karen over at Being Koy and found out about Louis's visit to Fethiye. I think the words, "We must go to there" were spoken.
For more information on the event, call Gill Erdogan at 0535 494 75 06. I spoke with her this morning and she said that tickets should officially go on sale this weekend so you may want to wait a few days to call.
Thanks, Karen, for the info!
